AOPA: "These restrictions are excessive and do little to increase security. There are more simple and rational security procedures that can be implemented without setting a dangerous precedent that threatens GA pilots across the nation."
Take Action:
Write to the FAA, the Congress, and copy AOPA before Nov. 2.

  • Describe yourself as a pilot including type of certificate and ratings, how much you fly annually, how you use your pilot certificate, and other relevant statistics and facts

  • Explain to the FAA and Congress how this type restriction would affect your flying.

  • The Washington, DC Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) is operationally unworkable and imposes major burdens on pilots and air traffic controllers alike, all with minimal security benefits, and it must NOT be made permanent.

  • No general aviation aircraft has ever been used in a terrorist attack.

  • The proposed rule is flawed because the evaluation of economic and operational impacts on pilots and aviation businesses and analysis of alternatives are insufficient.

  • Be sure to include the official Docket Number: FAA-2004-17005

Sam Stewart and I competed in the Carolinas 300 Air Race on 9.30.05. This was a 300 SM dead reckoning handicap race at top speed over a triangular course from Monroe via Cheraw out to Wallace: Henderson  (KACZ) near Wilmington without GPS and VOR nav aids. Before the race, EAA 309 served breakfast and thanks to the many members who turned up to help - Sam Stewart, Kevin Cromie & Allison, Bob Dobbins, Ronnie Brown, Neil Stewart & Jerry Wiese. Regrettably,

I have to report that Race # 22's performance was not spectacular; we made some rookie mistakes and did not end up in the medals. However, others did a lot worse and one plane got so lost that they had to stop for fuel. The most important item is that we did beat our competition of Dale Frump and Steve Little from the EAA 961 Rock Hill SC chapter. Bottom line is that when EAA 961 has their next fly-in, breakfast is free for EAA 309 members.

Regarding the Gastonia hangar project, we have requested engineering
