President's Corner
I think that one of the key priorities for 2005 is the choice of location for a permanent chapter facility and how exactly we should proceed on that. My opinion is that this is key to sustaining the energy of the chapter. Another important item is getting organised for another Fly-In /Young Eagles event at Lincoln County.

Please let me know the items which you believe are important for the future of the chapter. It will be a fun year and I am looking forward to it. I am also very grateful for the hard work which Sam Stewart and the previous board members have done to keep everything running smoothly and to prepare for the way ahead.

  1. Lincoln County will be prepared to host a full blown Young Eagles/Fly-In event in 2005, similar to the 2003 event.

  2. Trailer is now full of new equipment. (Grill, cooker, chairs, tables, etc.) Some system of equipment storage in trailer needs to be done.

  3. Observation made by Wally Overton that Rock Hill chapter provides 20 to 25 Young Eagles flights per month and why can't we match that ?

I propose that the next Chapter meeting in January 2005 be held as usual at the Old Smokehouse and that we schedule the Feb, May, August and October meetings to be held at other restaurants. If anyone has suggestions for dinner meeting locations in other parts of Charlotte, please let us know.

Cheers - John Wigney

California. With an average headwind of 25 knots, it took 17.1 hours at 2500 RPM and 7 GPH. It was a fun trip and my rebuilt O-320 ran like a champ. I stayed with the buyer a
couple of days to give him some landing instruction and took a commercial flight home. I hadn't flown commercial in 5-6 years but my buyer and I were struck by how easy it is to fly a private aircraft cross country versus the
hassle of commercial flying.
My buyer is heading a JPL project to fly multiple telescopes in millimeter-precise formation. Very interesting guy. When we landed at
Chino Airport, about six other canard owners came out to see what he'd bought. He's gonna have fun and he's already planning how to upgrade the airplane. I'm glad to be down to one flying airplane again. - - - Kent Ashton

CALIFORNIA TRIPPING

I sold my Cozy III to an engineer at the Jet Pro-pulson Lab in Pasadena but the chap didn't have much Private Pilot time. The buyer caught a flight
out N.C. and we flew the airplane to Southern
