MEETING: CHAPTER 309

MONDAY, JANUARY 17,2005

The January meeting of EAA Chapter 309 was called to order at 7:10 pm at the Ole Smokehouse  Family Restaurant in Charlotte, NC.  President John Wigney presided.

Treasurer Kevin Cromie circulated the financial report and stated that the Chapter was in good standing with approximately $4017 in cash and CD’s totaling approximately $22,400.

President Wigney called attention to the 2005 Schedule of Events which may be viewed on the Chapter’s web site. Specifically, it was noted that there are three fly-ins scheduled: March at Lake Norman Airport, June at Gastonia Municipal airport, and November at Lincoln County Airport.  Each of these fly-ins will have Young Eagle activities scheduled.  President Wigney also announced that a Piedmont Air Tour and a Poker Run have been suggested as additional activities.

Vice  President Ravi Thakkar added that the regular meetings will feature speakers and a tour of  the Charlotte Tower.  In May John Crouse of FISDO will present a program oriented forwards flying safety.  He will very possibly review accidents in  North Carolina as a part of his presentation.

President Wigney reported that the Board is proceeding with efforts to provide a permanent facility for the Chapter.  Possible locations at the Lincoln County and Gastonia Municipal Airports have been investigated.  Most spaces at Lincoln County have been spoken for and they have no provision for water and sewerage.  The Lincoln County Airport Commission also does not seem to have an interest.  The best option thus appears to be Gastonia .  Officials there are enthusiastic towards being associated with EAA 309.  There is a 75 X 85 foot pad which we could use as a part of our facility.  Gastonia has offered us a 20 year lease at $0.04/sqft/year .  The lease may be renewed for 5 years.

Two guests were introduced.  Members were reminded of 2005 dues  (now payable) and that all members should have a name tag and wear it at all meetings.

Ron and Kandy  Murray  reported on the completion of  their RV-9A and first flights.  Their airplane now has 9 hours on it.  Dale Ensing likewise reported that his RV-6A is complete and he has logged 12.5 hours in it.  Both owners had big smiles while describing their accomplishments.

A video was available for those who wished to remain to view all or part.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:55 pm.

Respectively Submitted,
