EAA Chapter 309

Meeting Minutes

July 17, 2006

Chapter 309 met this date at the Quaker Steak and Lube in Charlotte, NC.  The meeting was called to order by President John Wigney at 7:15 pm with 32 members, guests or first time visitors present.  President Wigney spoke on the progress of the hangar lease at the Gastonia Airport indicating the progress is moving forward slowly with the lease in the city attorney’s office at that time.  Carl Murphy, a member of the Gastonia Airport Business Advisory Association also spoke briefly to the process which we were going through.  (Secretaries note:  Since this meeting we have been advised that the current leasee has notified the City of Gastonia that they now wish to keep their current active lease.)

There was no business conducted at the meeting but those going to Air Adventure agreed to meet Wednesday at 5:oo pm at the steps to the stage of the Theater in the Woods.

Ron Brown reviewed dates of upcoming events:
 Poker Run   Saturday August 12
Fly In at Lincolnton    November 4
Fly Out to Martinsville, VA then to Asheboro and the museum located there.

The program for the evening featured Bill Hartin of Wing Sport Aviation giving a presentation directed to light sport aviation.  Bill’s business involves the sale of light sport aircraft ready to fly.  He reviewed how LSA arose and evolved into its present status.  There were a number of questions related to LSA indicating that the new interest area is well underway but there remains many questions that are not fully understood.

The meeting adjourned at 9:55 p,m..
