Gastonia hangar
JW reported that
latest option of an offer to purchase the Cottonair hangar for $20,000 had
fallen through. Cottonair is selling the hangar to another party.
Alternative
options for a hangar were then brainstormed and details filled in. Next steps
and actions for these options were then determined. Ideas were :-
- Hangar at Gastonia adjacent to FBO office.
This hangar is ~3,800 sq ft, has good door, adjacent to FBO parking lot,
adjacent to FBO washrooms. This hangar was previously suggested as an
option to rent by the airport contacts. Is owned by city and has several planes
already in the space. Sam Stewart will discuss with Butch Pearson/Richard Duffie.
- Ray Petty hangar at Gastonia. Ray has already
asked if we would like to buy this hangar. His asking price was basically
what he had in it ($60,000+?) but the lease has only a few years to run so
this appeared unreasonable and we chose not to pursue the idea. Sam Stewart will
revisit the option and discuss with Ray. (Need to confirm size of hangar
and door.)
- Goose Creek 2350 ft x 35 ft runway, Union? County.
Location is on Lawyers Rd, 3 miles SE of I485. Approx 17 miles SE of
downtown Charlotte. Comment was that atmosphere is very relaxed. Dale Ensing
will follow up.
- Bradford Field., SE of Huntersville. Grass,
long ? ft, wide ? ft. East of Huntersville, located just to west of
Concord Class D airspace. Approx 13 miles north of downtown Charlotte. Private
field, Bill Bradford-son of ? Bradford. Has fuel, is relaxed. Hal Schwab
is possible contact, Bill Repucci will
follow up with Hal.
- Lake Norman Airpark. Possible space available
from Tom Wilson who runs the FBO end of the field. Approx 30 miles north
of downtown Charlotte. John Schroeder
to follow up.
- New hangar
at original slab location, Gastonia Suggested that it may be possible to downsize and simplify the
scope of the original plan which came in over budget. Building needs to be
over 4,000 sq ft and less than 5,000 sq ft. John
Wigney to follow up.
- Jack Roush assistance. Suggested that Jack
Roush may have some ability to assist. Don Sink
will follow up with Butch Stevens to determine how best to make contact.
- Wilgrove 2835 ft x 40 ft runway. Located on Albermarle Rd, approx. 1
mile west of I485. Approx. 6 miles east of downtown
Charlotte. Dale Ensing will follow up with Earl Fortner.
- Laneys Field Located near Maiden, approx 7 miles north of Lincoln County
airport, approx 30 miles from downtown Charlotte. John Wigney will discuss with Howard Cochrane
who lives at field.
