EAA CHAPTER 309
MEETING MINUTES
FEBRUARY  20, 2006

 


The meeting was called to order by President John Wigney at 7:03 pm at the Open Kitchen in Charlotte, NC. 

 

Sam Stewart reviewed the chapter finances reporting a current cash balance of $14,726 in the checking account and a certificate of  deposit of $22, 873.  This means that we will need to borrow less than $25,000 to finance our hangar project. 

 

Both Sam and John reported that we have received notification that our application for Federal Tax exempt status of 501(c)(3) has been approved.  We will have probationary status until 2009 at which time if we have followed the rules we will have permanent status awarded.  The effective date of this status is May 18, 2005.  Donations on or after that date may be considered for tax purposes.

Ron Murray asked for volunteers by passing around a sign up form for the Lake Norman Fly In. 

 

Bill Repucci spoke on the need to get spouses actively involved in Chapter and individual projects.  Asked for help in this regard. 

 

John Wigney reported that there are as yet still some drawings  that are being completed on the hangar project, most particularly the electrical drawings.  When these are complete the plans will be submitted to several firms for bid construction bids. 

 

Guests were recognized.

 

The business meeting was closed at 7.18 pm.

 

Van Smith, a visitor from Hickory  was introduced.  Van flew CH-53D’s in the USMC in the 70’s and a Swiss Bell Jet Ranger doing missionary work in East Africa in the 80,s.  The CH-53D is the 25 ton Sikorsky Sea Satllion.  Van spoke of an opportunity for individuals to support an effort to acquire a replacement engine for a missionary in Venezuela.  The missionary has a Zenith CH 801 which is used to support the missionary work there.  Details of the project are found on the web at http://www.zenithair.com/misc/801-mission.html

 

Bill Wilson gave an informative presentation on the recognition of stalls and spin prevention.
